Parkland Dedication

As Niagara Falls continues to grow, so does the need for public parkland. In order to meet the increasing demand and availability of parkland for residents and visitors, the City continues to improve existing park spaces and secure new parkland through the development and redevelopment of residential, commercial and industrial sites.

Section 42 of the Planning Act allows the City to require, as a condition of development or redevelopment, that land be conveyed or payment be made in-lieu for the purpose of parkland or other public recreational purposes.

The City has parkland dedication policies guide the conveyance of land or collection of ‘cash-in-lieu of parkland’, within Community Improvement Area Boundaries, residential areas and commercial/industrial areas. The requirement for parkland dedication can be discussed with a City Planner, and will be identified in Pre-Consultation meetings, as guided by the following bylaws.
