How to appeal a parking ticket
Learn how to dispute a penalty notice on the Fines and Penalties Appeals page.
What happens if you don’t pay your ticket on time?
- If you don’t pay your parking ticket by the due date, we will send a Notice of Outstanding Penalty to the vehicle's registered owner. This notice goes out about 15 days after the ticket is issued and includes a search fee for retrieving ownership information. Once applied, fees cannot be waived or removed.
- If the ticket remains unpaid, we will send a second notice. At this point, you can no longer dispute the ticket. You must pay the full amount by the deadline on the second notice.
- If you still don’t pay, we will forward the unpaid amount, including the search fee and any late fees, to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). The MTO will add these fees plus their processing fee to your vehicle’s license plate, and you must pay all outstanding fees before renewing your licence.
Pay your ticket on time to avoid extra charges.
