Types of Employment
The City offers a variety of career opportunities across multiple fields, with vacancies posted as they arise. Below are some examples of positions we recruit for on a regular (annual or semi-annual) basis:
Firefighters – Career and Volunteer
The Niagara Falls Fire Department is a composite department with 130+ full-time firefighters responding in the urban area and 100+ volunteers responding in the rural area.
Temporary Clerical Staff
The City has a clerical pool to cover staff vacancies and special projects. Proficiency in Word and Excel is required as is a typing speed of 50+ wpm. Successful completion of job-related testing and office experience is required.
School Crossing Guards
Part-time School Crossing Guards play a vital role keeping children safe on their way to and from school. The ideal candidates are responsible, safety-driven, community-minded individuals who maintain positive public relations for the City and provide credible representation of the School Crossing Guard program. Applications are accepted year-round and candidates are called as operations require.
Seasonal Labourers
The City has a seasonal labourer/driver pool to keep roads, parks, cemeteries and other public spaces safe, clean and beautiful. The minimum qualifications are: a valid Ontario Driver’s License; driving/work-related experience; and successful completion of job-related testing. Preferred qualifications include First Aid/CPR and WHIMIS certification. Candidates are required to supply a current driver’s abstract and police record check during the recruitment process.
Summer Students
Opportunities for summer students range from grass cutting, maintenance, lifeguarding to job specific assignments/projects. To be eligible, students must be returning to school on a full-time basis in September. Summer student positions may be advertised as early as January. Proof of return to school will be required and, for some positions (i.e., Lifeguards), copies of appropriate certifications must be included.
