June is Recreation & Parks Month – Join us for kick-off celebrations!

Niagara Falls, ON, May 12th, 2017 – The City of Niagara Falls invites you to join the kick-off celebrations for “June is Recreation & Parks Month” on Wednesday, May 31st, 2017. The day’s festivities will start with the Opening Celebration for the Solar Neighbourhood Park Playground, followed by an evening of family fun at Firemen’s Park.

The Playground Opening Celebration will be held at 4:00 pm at Solar Neighbourhood Park, located at 6519 Jupiter Boulevard. Participants are encouraged to utilize the parking at Firemen’s Park and walk the scenic Haulage Trail to the celebration. This 1.25 km beautiful section of trail runs diagonally from Mountain Road and Dorchester Road to St. Paul Avenue, connecting Solar Park and Firemen’s Park. The trail has an asphalt surface, making it accessible for everyone!

The new playground includes an accessible play structure and play surface, additional swings, more slides and play equipment, a second basketball net for the existing court, and more park seating and picnic opportunities. This playground opening is part of “Operation Awesome Playgrounds”, a City initiative to refresh 10 playgrounds in 2017. Residents are encouraged to visit and sign up to the City’s online engagement site letstalk.niagarafalls.ca to learn more.

At 5:00 pm, the celebration continues at Firemen’s Park (located at the corner of Mountain Rd and Dorchester Rd). Councillor Mike Strange will kick off the event with a fun run on the Haulage Trail that will begin at 5:00 pm.

The following free activities will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the park:

  •   Storywalks
  • Hose Air Hockey Game
  • Inflatable Bouncy Castle
  • Face Painting
  • Scavenger Hunt
  • Live Musical Entertainment – local talent
  • Free Canada 150 Lilies while quantities last!

Plan to have a “Canadian” supper in the park! Food will be available for purchase from the Stamford Centre Volunteer Firemen’s Association, including poutine and back bacon on a bun.

We hope that you and your family will join the fun!
