Media Release: Fire Chief Lifts Burning Ban in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls, ON, August 22, 2025 – With sufficient rainfall in the City of Niagara Falls this past week, Fire Chief Jo Zambito has lifted the fire ban that was put in place on August 12th.

“The rain we experienced here locally was sufficient and we are satisfied the fire risk has been reduced so we’ve lifted the ban” stated Chief Zambito. “We only issue a fire ban in extraordinary circumstances which we were experiencing and rely on the cooperation of the public in following the rules to keep our community safe” added Chief Zambito.

During the fire ban, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to six incidences where fires were found in contravention of the fire ban. The Fire Department will be sending property owners invoices for the costs related to those responses in accordance with the municipality’s schedule of fees by-law.

The Niagara Falls Fire Department thanks the public for their cooperation during the fire ban and with the ban being lifted would like to remind residents that open-air fires are regulated under municipal by-law. “While small, confined fires used for cooking purposes are permitted in Niagara Falls, if the fire department receives complaints those fires are creating nuisances for neighbouring properties, those fires must be extinguished” stated Chief Zambito.
