Gord Singleton Commemorative Sign Unveiling & Official Reopening of Whirlpool Road

NIAGARA FALLS, ON -  The City of Niagara Falls invites media representatives to honour Gord Singleton with a commemorative sign unveiling and the official reopening of Whirlpool Road after extensive rehabilitation. This special event coincides with Gord's birthday, allowing friends, family, and fellow cyclists to come together in remembrance.

Gord Singleton was a remarkable athlete, businessperson, and community leader. Passionate about cycling, he dedicated his time and resources to numerous charity events, supporting various causes beyond the sport. A member of the Sports Wall of Fame Committee for 35 years, Gord was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame in 1988-1989.

His cycling career began in 1975 and saw him achieve incredible feats, including winning gold and bronze medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and two gold medals at the 1979 Pan-American Games.  On October 10, 1980, he set three world records in one day. In 1992, he became the first Canadian to win a world cycling championship and received the prestigious Order of Canada Award in 1986.

Gord returned to competitive cycling in 1998, securing two gold medals at the World Masters Championships, and added another in 2006. Most recently, he and his wife, Louann, became active members of the Amici per la Vita Niagara Cycling Club.
