Oversized or Overweight Load Permits

If you are moving a vehicle, load, object, or structure that is bigger or heavier than the legal limits of the Highway Traffic Act in the City of Niagara Falls, you must apply for a permit. This permit helps ensure your load travels safely and doesn’t cause traffic problems or damage to roads.

Examples of oversized or overweight loads

  • Construction equipment like cranes or bulldozers
  • Large buildings or homes that are pre-built
  • Heavy industrial machines
  • Double decker buses

Apply for an oversized/overweight permit

You can apply for a single-trip permit or an annual permit. Allow two (2) business days for us to process your application.

  1. Application: Complete the Oversize/Overweight Load Permit Application (PDF) and review the general conditions.
  1. Insurance: Use the City’s Standard Certificate of Insurance form.
  1. Fees: Single use permits are $100 plus HST.  Annual permits are $300 plus HST.  View the Schedule of Fees.

This permit is only valid for road sections that are under the jurisdiction of the City of Niagara Falls.  You will also need to get permits from other authorities if you will be travelling on them with an oversized or overweight load.
