Overnight parking fines

The Parking and Traffic By-law bans parking on City and Regional Roads from 2 am to 6 am unless signs say otherwise. This rule is in place all year, with stricter enforcement in winter.

Overnight parking permits

Overnight parking permits help homeowners who can’t park all their vehicles off the street at night.

  • Check out our Parking Permits page to apply for a one-year overnight parking permit

Special overnight parking requests

You can request overnight street parking for certain circumstances. While parking on city streets is not allowed year-round from 2 am to 6 am, residents may request up to 7 days of street parking per calendar year, per license plate. This is not the same as an overnight parking permit.

You can use the privilege for:

  • Guests staying overnight
  • Driveway or sidewalk repairs
  • Roof repairs
  • Special functions
  • Moving

Request details

  • Fill out the online overnight parking privilege form. You must provide at least 12 hours advance notice
  • There is no fee for making the request
  • Each request covers parking from 11 pm to 7 am the next day
  • Consideration will not be granted for commercial vehicles, derelict vehicles, unlicensed vehicles, or immobile trailers
  • You can’t use the overnight parking privilege during snow-clearing operations
