Urban design guidelines are a series of design statements and images aimed to set standards for enhancing the quality of development within the City. They focus on the design of new development and how it relates to the surrounding neighborhood, street and public space, street design, landscape elements and even associated parking. Urban design combines disciplines like architecture, planning, design, and landscape architecture to address the comprehensive design of whole districts.

In addition to urban design guidelines contained in the City’s Official Plan, the following Urban Design Guidelines provide guidance to development in different areas of the City:
Urban Design Guidelines may be required for various forms of development. The applicability of Urban Design Guidelines should be discussed with the Planner and Urban Designer/Landscape Architect in Pre-Consultation meetings.
