Fire Safety Inspections are received at the Fire Prevention Office by one of two ways:
- Requested by the property owner: If a person wants a fire safety inspection conducted at a property they own, they can request this in writing to the Fire Prevention Office. The letter must state the owner's name, property address, and reason for inspection. There is a fee for this service and the cost can be found on the Fire Service Fee Schedule.
- Requested by a concerned citizen: If a member of the public has reason to believe that a property within the City of Niagara Falls does not comply with the Ontario Fire Code or there are fire hazards at a property, they may file a complaint with the Fire Prevention Office.
A fire department inspector has the authority to inspect land or premises to assess fire safety. If the inspector sees a violation, they can issue an order to the owner or occupant to do what is necessary to ensure fire safety at the location.
