Fireworks 

Fireworks are regulated under municipal by-law in the City of Niagara Falls. The only holidays recognized under the by-law where residents are permitted to discharge consumer fireworks is Victoria Day (May) and Canada Day (July).

About the Fire Department

Our vibrant department in the City of Niagara Falls is one which values its past, grasps present opportunities and embraces the challenges of the future.  We are committed to providing the citizens of Niagara Falls with the best service possible.  It is an honour to serve the citizens and firefighters of this great city as your Fire Chief.

The Niagara Falls Fire Department is a composite department with 130 full-time firefighters responding in the urban area and 104 volunteers responding in the rural area. The mission of these dedicated professionals is to proudly provide world-class service to the citizens and visitors to our city and to protect them from the consequences of fires and other emergencies.    

Our mission statement encompasses the "Three Lines of Defense" which are:

1. Public Fire and Life Safety Education;
2. Fire Prevention and Fire Code Enforcement; and
3. Fire and Emergency Response. 

In keeping with this, all residents are urged to make sure there are working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every storey of their homes and outside all sleeping areas.  This is the law in Ontario and our department will be diligently enforcing it.  Help protect yourself and your family from fire by installing the required number of smoke alarms, testing them every month and replacing the batteries twice a year.

The most important part of the public safety team serving our community is YOU - the people we serve. Please ensure you do your part - whether it is checking your smoke alarms, being respectful to your neighbours through compliance with City by-laws, maintaining your business or workplace in compliance with Fire and Building Codes, or practicing your home exit drill with your family. We rely on you as our public safety partners.

If you have an emergency, call 911 - we still make house calls!  In addition to emergency response, we can assist you with questions about fire and life safety or with emergency planning information to help keep you and your family safe.
