National Public Works Week

Advancing Quality of Life for All: May 19 - 25, 2024

Since 1960, municipalities across Canada have recognized National Public Works Week. This special week in May is used to educate, engage and inform the public about the essential role public works play in the community's quality of life.

In Niagara Falls, the Municipal Works portfolio has three sections: Engineering, Operations, and Transportation. The portfolio provides quality services that directly impact citizens and businesses across the city every day. 

This year's National Public Works Week theme is "Advancing Quality of Life for All," which shines a spotlight on the way public works professionals advance our quality of life, whether as a first responder to an electricity outage, regular waste pickup, or a myriad of other ways they silently serve their communities.

Public works professionals advance the quality of life by providing an infrastructure of services in transportation, water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment, public buildings and spaces, parks and grounds, emergency management and first response, solid waste, and right-of-way management. They are what make our communities dynamic places to live and work.

From Sunday, May 19 to Saturday, May 25, 2024, the City of Niagara Falls will recognize National Public Works Week and the dedicated staff who go above and beyond to provide the community with front-line services that safeguard and enhance the quality of life in this growing city.

City of Niagara Falls Touch-A-Truck Event: Saturday, May 25

In celebration of National Public Works Week, the City of Niagara Falls is hosting a Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, May 25, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Gale Centre (5152 Thorold Stone Road, Niagara Falls).

This free, fun, family-friendly event will take place:

• When:  Saturday, May 25
• Time: 10 am to 2 pm
• Where: Gale Centre (5152 Thorold Stone Road)

The event gives residents the opportunity to explore a range of vehicles, including a police cruiser, a fire truck, a plow truck, a tractor, and a Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. bucket truck.

The City's Municipal Works team will be on hand to provide demonstrations and answer questions about the vehicles and equipment that help them perform their duties in our community.

Project SHARE is hosting a charity barbeque at the event, with proceeds benefiting essential support services in our community. The Niagara Region's Water Wagon, which promotes safe and clean drinking water, will also be present at the event. You will also have the opportunity to browse the Niagara Falls Public Library Bookmobile!
