NIAGARA FALLS, ON - The Niagara Falls Anti-Racism Committee is proud to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Justice 4 Black Lives march by unveiling a commemorative bench in front of 5125 Victoria Avenue on June 6, 2025, at 4:00 pm.
Five years ago, on June 6, 2020, thousands of individuals united in solidarity, marching through Victoria Avenue, Bridge Street, and River Road before gathering near the Whirlpool Bridge. This significant event not only honoured the memory of George Floyd, whose tragic death ignited a global movement for racial justice, but it represented so much more to those who were there in unity with the black community to shed light on issues facing minority groups within Canada.
The newly unveiled bench will serve as a lasting reminder of that significant day and highlight that racial injustice remains an ongoing issue both locally and globally. The location is particularly meaningful, as it was part of the original march route.
The Niagara Falls Anti-Racism Committee, functioning as an advisory committee to the City of Niagara Falls Council, has been actively working to further discussions on racism and promote educational initiatives. They have launched various programs through collaborations with the Niagara Falls Public Library and local schools, including visiting lectures and the "Culture Box" resources.
