A Celebration of the Environment
The inaugural PenFinancial Mother Earth Day event took place at Firemen's Park in Niagara Falls on Saturday, June 11, 2022. The event was organized and hosted by the Park in the City Committee with the support of the Stamford Centre Volunteer Firemen's Association as a celebration of the environment. Thousands of people attended the event. Thank you to all who participated as we look forward to doing it all over again 2023!
Events that took place during Mother Earth Day
2022 Community Clean Sweep

- From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Volunteers spread throughout the City of Niagara Falls to collect debris from parks, trails and boulevards. A complimentary lunch was provided to participants.
2022 Tree Planting

In total, 40 native trees were planted along the north side of Firemen's Park. A tree planting demo was provided by Land Care Niagara. This portion of the event sponsored by the Niagara Community Foundation and Land Care Niagara.
2022 Youth & Family Activities
Many youth activities were by Heartland Forest, the Niagara Falls Public Library and the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee.
All youth activities included the following:
- Niagara Falls Public Library StoryWalk - Outdoor guided walk with books
- Craft Table - Self-guided headband to colour and staple to wear.
- Live Bugs - Wildlife artifacts table
- Secret Map - Game involving following a map
- Obstacle Course - Butterfly life cycle theme
- Board Game - Be a Deer giant board game
- Scavenger Hunt - Search by image, colour and words
- Ridable Kids Train - Provided by Heartland Forest
- Large Prize Wheel - Win wild flower seeds and other swag from MYAC
- Living Wall - Glue on moss pieces to create a large living wall provided by MYAC

Volunteer Opportunities
The Mother Earth Day volunteer online submissions are now closed. Interested residents can still volunteer on-site during the event for the Community Clean Sweep portion of the event that is starting at 9:00 am. Waiver forms will be available to complete once you arrive.
