Fall Community Clean Sweep – Call for Volunteers

Niagara Falls, ON, October 4, 2016 - The City of Niagara Falls Park in the City Committee is inviting residents to participate in the upcoming Fall Community Clean Sweep event on Saturday, October 15, 2016.  All volunteers are to register online prior to at www.niagarafalls.ca/cleansweep.  For those who need assistance with registration, please call Recreation and Culture at 905-356-7521 ext.3330 during regular business hours. Volunteers are to meet at Oakes Park, located at Stanley Avenue and Morrison Street on October 15 starting at 10:00am.  Once volunteers have signed-in and received their cleaning supplies, they can then venture out to a City boulevard, trail, park or walkway of their choice to clean.  Safety instructions will also be provided to all volunteer leads.  The Park in the City Committee will have suggestions of problematic areas that may need attention if volunteers are unsure of where to clean.  Once the clean-up is completed, volunteers will then return any unused cleaning supplies to Oakes Park and indicate to committee members where any filled garbage/recycling bags have been left.  The event concludes at 12:00pm.

Started in 2007, The Community Clean Sweep event is completed 2 times a year annually.  Volunteers are asked to pick-up debris from various city areas to help make our City more beautiful.  This is a great opportunity to neighbours, families and friends to come together and show their civic pride.  Students can also acquire community service hours by participating with the event.

The Park in the City Committee is a volunteer committee made up of Niagara Falls residents who are appointed by members of City Council.  The Committee’s mandate is to encourage environmental responsibility, City wide beautification, promote recreational and active transportation and civic pride through community action.  The committee also advises City Council on issues regarding its mandate.  The community clean-up events are spearheaded by the committee.
