Manuel Trujillo

I was born in Cholula, Puebla. Mexico. I came with Caroline and my daughter Treya to visit my mother in law so she get to have more time with her first grandchild at the age of 81 and then we decided to stay. That was at the end of May in 2014.

What inspires you?

Everything, every little detail around…shapes, colors, people…music…when I make a connection suddenly I feel stimulated and there is this energy trying to come out, many times it is just an idea very visual in my mind but sometimes I use the surrounding materials and start creating, inspired!

What is your most important artist’s tool?

My hands indeed, but a pencil always helps!

Is there something you can’t live without in your studio?

Everything seems essential but I have learned working around the house between kids, toys and dishes, that I can’t live with at least some clean flat surface for drawing.

How did you start making art?

I was 14 years old when I painted my first mural and started a lettering business with two schoolmates, then got a job tracing backgrounds with a comic artist. Since then I have been challenging myself with any possible technique or material.

Is there an element of art you enjoy working with most? Why?

I love color. It is a way to remember that everything is light, and color is the reflection of it. I like to make tridimensional stuff just to see how the color looks in different shades over the same surface, even if it is made of the same material.

Do you have any artistic projects coming up?

I have this crazy idea cooking about a colourful installation with some fun interaction. I want to stimulate senses using some optical illusions. Some sort of magic and adventure.
