Is there an artwork you are most proud of? Why?
I think the artwork I’m most proud of is an oil painting I did of my partner, Nathanial. It’s one of the first oil paintings I’ve ever made and it was pretty challenging for me- especially getting the plaid shirt to look just right.
What inspires you?
I’m constantly getting ideas for new art projects but I’m heavily inspired by science, history, and nature, as well as my own weird dreams and surrealistic tendencies.
How did you start making art?
I started making art when I was a child and have always been interested in it. My father is a very talented artist and so was his father so I think it’s in my genes. I got really into painting when I was 13 and I would find anything we had around the house that I could paint on- furniture, scrap wood, telephones, etc. As I got older, I started to branch out into various media and other methods of creating.
Who are your favourite writers?
My favourite writers are probably David Sedaris and Kurt Vonnegut. Sedaris’ books always make me laugh out loud and Vonnegut is my all-time favourite. I think his work is brilliant and it’s perfect for daydreaming and getting lost in a super detailed, crazy story.
Do you have any artistic projects coming up?
I am currently working on a couple different series of paintings. One of the series is based on my collage work and involves creating collages and then making oil paintings of them. I hope to have a show of my newest work sometime in 2019.
