For one day only, Niagara Falls residents are encouraged to leave unwanted, reusable items on the curb.

NIAGARA FALLS, ON -  The popular Community Curbside Giveaway program returns to Niagara Falls on Saturday, October 21, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. As part of the program, the City's Environmental Action Committee encourages residents to leave unwanted, reusable objects at the curb for other residents to take. This initiative cuts down on excess landfill waste, while encouraging recycling and contributing to a more sustainable city.

To participate, residents can place used items in good condition on their property for others to take, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mark your items as FREE with Community Curbside signage found on the City's website or create your own. A printable sign can be downloaded at niagarafalls.ca/curbside.

Materials must be removed from the curb by 7 p.m. on Saturday to avoid by-law violations (and potential fines). The City will not collect any leftover items left at the curb. If you wish to donate any leftover items, contact a local charity or schedule a large item collection with the Niagara Region.

Promote your giveaway items online

Promote your items locally using the City of Niagara Falls Community Curbside public Facebook event page, or share photos on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #nfcurbside.

Curbside giveaway etiquette and safety tips:

  • Place signs on items that say FREE.
  • Keep objects you do not want to give away close to or inside your property to avoid confusion.
  • Giveaway items should still be in good condition for re-use.
  • Keep sidewalks and fire hydrants clear.
  • Obey traffic laws at all times (e.g., do not block traffic, park illegally or block other residents' driveways).
  • Materials must be removed from the curb by 7 p.m. Saturday to avoid by-law violations (and potential fines).
