SPOOKY AWARDS HALLOWEEN DECORATING COMPETITION RETURNS FOR 2023, REGISTRATION STARTS OCTOBER 4

NIAGARA FALLS, ON -  Show off your boo-tiful outdoor Halloween display and earn bragging rights in your neighbourhood – the City of Niagara Falls’ 4th annual Spooky Awards competition is back for 2023.
 
The Spooky Awards is a free, outdoor, Halloween-themed decorating competition open to Niagara Falls residents, with prizes awarded for People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice and Best Effects. Over 60 properties participated in the competition in 2022. 
 
Residents can register their properties in the competition between October 4 and October 25, with an online voting and judging window taking place from October 27 to October 29. 
 
Winners are announced during the day on October 31 at niagarafalls.ca/spooky, allowing residents to map out their trick-or-treating route to include the spookiest houses across Niagara Falls. 
 
HOW TO PARTICIPATE 

  • Create an outdoor Halloween display at your home or business – You can enter by registering online between October 4 and 25 at niagarafalls.ca/spooky. There is no registration fee to participate in the competition. 
  • Tour displays across the City with the Spooky Map – Displays will be lit from 6 to 10 p.m. from October 27-29. Residents are encouraged to tour the City using the Spooky Map, an online city guide of registered properties, which will be made available to the public once registration is closed at niagarafalls.ca/spooky
  • Cast your vote in the People's Choice Awards – Voting for your favourite display will open to the public online at niagarafalls.ca/spooky, starting at 6 p.m. on October 27 through midnight on October 29. 
  • Winners announced on Halloween – Spooky Awards winners will be announced on Halloween day on October 31. Tour the spookiest houses in Niagara Falls as part of your trick-or-treat route later that night!
  • Follow the Spooky Awards on Facebook – Competitors can share sneak peeks of their properties and campaign for likes and visits leading up to the competition. You can also RSVP on the Facebook event page here.
