Recycling Collection Changes for Businesses and Non-Residential Properties Effective January 1, 2026

NIAGARA FALLS, ON -  On November 20, 2025, Niagara Region approved the discontinuation of curbside recycling collection for Non-Eligible Sources (Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional properties), effective Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Why Is This Happening?
This change is required under the Province of Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation (O. Reg. 391/21), which shifts responsibility for funding and operating residential recycling systems to producers (the companies that supply packaging and paper products).

Who Is Affected?

  • Businesses
  • Places of worship
  • Institutions
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Other non-residential properties

What You Need to Do
Beginning January 1, 2026, recycling will no longer be collected alongside residential collection. Affected properties should arrange for private recycling services as soon as possible. Niagara Region’s drop-off depots may be used as an interim or alternate solution.
