NIAGARA FALLS, ON - After breaking ground in 2022, the grand opening of the Children’s Memorial Walkway is set for Sunday, July 16, at 12 pm at Firemen’s Park in Niagara Falls.

Located in the southeast area of Firemen’s Park, the Children’s Memorial Walkway and garden was designed as a peaceful space for families to honour and memorialize young family members that passed away prematurely.

Approved by City Council in 2021, the tranquil walkway allows visitors to cherish their precious memories and grieve in peace while strolling through gardens of native pollinator plants. Decorative rock markers and ornaments are spaced along the Children’s Memorial Walkway to commemorate loved ones who were lost.

The grand opening event on July 16th will include greetings from Mayor Jim Diodati, followed by remarks from City Councilors and families of some of the children who will be remembered at the Walkway.

Although funding was set aside for the project, the actual costs have exceeded the estimated budget. Additional funds are needed to complete the project to the scale and grandeur initially proposed.
