City of Niagara Falls announces ‘Name The Street Sweeper Challenge’

Beginning Saturday, May 27, Niagara Falls residents will have the opportunity to name both of the City’s street sweepers.

In celebration of National Public Works Week, the City of Niagara Falls is hosting a Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, May 27, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Gale Centre (5152 Thorold Stone Road). The event encourages residents to get up-close-and-personal with a range of vehicles, including a police cruiser, a fire truck, and a City of Niagara Falls street sweeper.

Residents can submit their name suggestions in-person at the event, or by clicking here, until the submission deadline of Friday, June 9 at 5 pm.

City staff will review the list of proposed names and select a shortlist based on the criteria of frequency of suggested names, creativity, originality and family-friendly humour.

From there, residents will be able to vote for their favourite street sweeper names on letstalk.niagarafalls.ca, beginning Monday, June 19. The two suggestions that receive the most votes by the Friday, June 30 deadline will be announced as the two official street sweeper names.

Quote from Erik Nickel, General Manager of Municipal Works, City of Niagara Falls:

“Our crews and equipment, including our street sweepers, are out in the community daily, doing maintenance and general upkeep. We’re hoping that the Name the Street Sweeper Challenge will be a fun and interactive way for the community to engage with our Municipal Works team.”
