City of Niagara Falls appoints City Clerk and four directors

The City of Niagara Falls is pleased to announce the following promotions and new appointments to senior staff positions.

Bill Matson has been promoted to the position of City Clerk. Mr. Matson joined the City of Niagara Falls in 1997, and has held various positions within the Clerk’s Department. He was most recently the Manager of Clerk’s Services. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brock University and a certificate from the Ontario Municipal Administration Program.

Tiffany Clark has been promoted to the position of Director of Finance and City Treasurer. Ms. Clark was hired as the City’s Manager of Accounting in 2013. She came to the City from the accounting firm of Crawford, Smith and Swallow, where she held the position of staff accountant. She has a Bachelor of Accounting from Brock University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA equivalent).

Salvatore (Sam) Valeo has been promoted to the position of Director, Building and Municipal Enforcement Services. In this capacity, he continues to be the City’s Chief Building Official (CBO). Mr. Valeo joined the City in January 2017 after holding positions at the City of Hamilton, as Building Official/Senior Plan Examiner, and Victoria Park Community Homes, as Manager of Capital Assets/Construction Engineering. He is a Professional Engineer and holds a Masters of Engineering from Western University and a Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology from Niagara College.

Effective May 27, 2019, Erik Nickel will become the City’s Director of Municipal Works. Mr. Nickel comes to Niagara Falls from the City of Welland, where he has worked as an Engineer since 2008. He was promoted to the Manager of Engineering Services, and then to his current role as General Manager of Infrastructure and Development Services in 2017. Mr.Nickel holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from McMaster University and is a Professional Engineer (Ontario).
Effective June 10, 2019, Donna Jaques will become the City’s City Solicitor and Director of Legal Services. Ms. Jaques has held previous Solicitor positions in private practice, as well as positions with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and City of Guelph. Most recently, she was General Council for Ontario Northland Transportation Commission. She holds her Bachelor of Law from Western University.
