Swim squad is a team orientated introduction to competitive swimming program. It offers the opportunity to learn skills and improve fitness for youth. By belonging to a team, each person enjoys learning to swim faster by challenging themselves to improve personal best times. Swim squad is based upon the values of fair play and allows each swimmer an opportunity to contribute to their team. The program includes stroke and skill improvement and physical training. Pool Admission Standards & Swim Test

Admission Standards

Admission Standards for public pools were developed by the Office of the Coroner of Ontario to assist lifeguards in maintaining adequate surveillance over the whereabouts and the activities of young bathers while they are within the pool enclosure.

The City of Niagara Falls would like to provide the most enjoyable Aquatic Experience for its swimmers.  To do this under the safest conditions, we have implemented the following Admission Standards that are based on recommendations from the Ontario Health Regulations, The Lifesaving Society and Niagara Public Health.

To Help ensure your children have a safe and enjoyable swimming experience, we use colour-coded wristband procedures to identify swimmers. Please see the Lifeguard to obtain your wristband and complete your swim test. (Note these admission standards apply to the Outdoor Pools)

Swim Test

Jump Into Deep Water, Tread 1 minute, Swim 3 Widths of the Pool (2 Widths @ FH Leslie) continuously and comfortably (with face in the water).

Direct Supervision means in the water within arm's reach and able to render immediate assistance.

Swim Attire

The City of Niagara Falls in consultation with the Public Health Department has identified appropriate bathing wear in order to meet the needs of bathers.
When using the pool, all swimmers must:
- Change from street clothes to a swimsuit and/or clean clothing used for swimming only
- Swimmers may wear long-sleeved shirts or t-shirts, pants and/or traditional ethnic clothing. This clothing must permit individuals to participate safely in programs and be made of a swimming pool friendly material (no jeans, sweatpants, cotton or heavy clothing). Light Colour of clothing is preferred.
-Those who are not completely toilet trained must wear specialized swim diapers or tight-fitting rubber pants.
