On October 3, 2011 City Council approved a formal program to advise all stakeholders of the City's requirement to inspect and seal all water meter by-passes. A water meter bypass is a connection made prior to the meter that redirects the flow of water around the meter and back into domestic plumbing. View the Water meter by-pass drawing.
The City of Niagara Falls inspects all meters within the City that are 1” in size or greater through this program. Although properties contacted for an inspection may not contain a water meter bypass, an inspection is still mandatory.
Once identified, water meter bypasses will be locked and sealed. A tag with a contact number will be provided should the bypass need to be re-opened for maintenance or emergency purposes. It is the owners responsibility to ensure their by-passes are maintained appropriately.
This program is not intended to adversely affect any owners, but to ensure compliance.
