Hydro One Vegetation Maintenance in the City of Niagara Falls

Description

Hydro One will be conducting vegetation maintenance on the transmission corridor running between Sir Adam Beck Transmission Station (TS), located at 14000 Niagara River Pkwy, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Murray TS, located at near Murray Street in Niagara Falls, please see the attached map.

Hydro One is responsible to maintain a safe distance between vegetation and power lines to keep the corridor safe for public use, keep the lights on, and to allow safe access for our crews during routine maintenance and emergency situations. This important work ensures that Hydro One can continue to provide a supply of safe and reliable electricity to the City of Niagara Falls.

Work along the transmission corridor will include the removal or trimming, where possible, of trees and other vegetation that at maturity can grow or fall into the power lines, and the removal of vegetation at tower bases. Our Forestry crews will use the following methods to complete this work:

·Manual trimming and removal of trees and other vegetation will be completed using hand tools, such as chainsaws and pruners. Bucket trucks and wood chippers will also be onsite, as required.

·Garlon-RTU (Ready to Use) herbicide will be selectively applied to certain cut stems to prevent regrowth. This herbicide is applied via backpack and wand, directly to cut stems where manual work occurs. Our licensed and trained staff do not apply herbicide near water, and obtain permission from private property owners if it is to be applied on their property. This herbicide is never broad-sprayed, and signage is posted at the site of application.

If work is required on private property, a Hydro One Forestry representative will make every effort to contact the property owner in advance of any work occurring.

As this work unfolds, the health and safety of our customers, team members and the communities we serve remain our top priority. Hydro One is continuously evaluating the current health pandemic and adapting our work practices as required. That being said, as an essential service, we recognize the critical role we have in powering homes and businesses, as well as local distribution companies. We will continue to deliver on that commitment through this pandemic.
