Project Description

2019 - Detailed assessment and design of existing Beaver Valley storm water management (SWM) pond operational capacity to increase both the SWM pond and upstream storm sewer sizing. Added scope to this project to assess impacts of future development along the former Ministry of Transportation (MTO) corridor. This is recommended from the 2017 Master Drainage Plan Update Study. 2020 - A Technical assessment determined that the existing Beaver Valley Stormwater Management Pond (SWMP) does not meet current City and Provincial standards and as a result is deficient for both water quality and quantity controls. The pond outlets to the Beaverdams Creek on the opposite side of Kalar Road through ca culvert crossing. Given the size and geometry of the culvert coupled with the significant sag in the roadway, Kalar Road is subject to regular flooding when the SWMP back up during heavy wet weather events. An application for the Beaver Valley Extension (subdivision), located north of the existing Beaver Valley subdivision has been approved by the City, however the existing pond can not accommodate addition of the stormwater runoff associated with the new growth "as-is". Through the project, the City has the opportunity to retrofit/expand the Beaver Valley SWMP and optimize the Kalar Road profile and culvert crossing to not only accommodate the new development of the Beaver Valley Extension but also to address the deficiencies for the existing development.
