Public notice - Phragmites spraying Warren Creek Water Course
The City of Niagara Falls will be conducting vegetation management at the Warren Creek Water Course to control the invasive species Phragmites australis (Common Reed).
Temporary closure of Warren Woods Recreation Trail: To ensure public safety and the effectiveness of the treatment, the Warren Woods Recreation Trail adjacent to Warren Creek will be temporarily closed during the spraying operation. Access will be restricted until signage is removed and the area is deemed safe for public use.
Date of spraying: September 30, 2025
Trail closure dates: September 30, 2025
Location: Warren Creek, Niagara Falls
- Upper Canada Drive to McLeod Road
- McLeod Road to Butternut Avenue
- Butternut Avenue to Kalar Road
Why this is important
Phragmites is a fast-spreading invasive plant that threatens native ecosystems, reduces biodiversity, and obstructs recreational areas. This spraying is part of a broader ecological restoration effort.
Spraying details
- A licensed contractor will apply an approved herbicide under strict environmental guidelines
- All necessary precautions will be taken to protect surrounding wildlife and water sources
- Signage will be posted at all entrances and along affected areas
