Spring street sweeping operations underway in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - The City of Niagara Falls Street Sweeping Program is underway. This essential service, which began on March 20th across the city, focuses on freshening our roads and ensuring a safe environment for all residents.

Throughout the winter, our streets accumulate sand, dirt, and debris left behind by snow and ice. Our street sweepers play a vital role in clearing this waste, enhancing both safety and aesthetics throughout the community. While our advanced equipment has dust suppression filters, some airborne dust may occur during sweeping.

How Residents Can Help

The effectiveness of street sweeping relies on community participation. Residents are encouraged to:

  • Keep the gutters clear: Avoid creating debris piles along the curb.
  • Keep the roads clear: Do not sweep driveway and sidewalk materials into the street. Moving roadside items such as basketball and hockey nets will enhance the effectiveness of the cleaning process.
  • Stay alert: Exercise caution when driving near street sweeping equipment.
  • Clear the way: Refrain from street parking during scheduled cleaning times.

Importance of Street Sweeping

Street sweeping significantly contributes to public safety and environmental protection. Clean roadways provide a safer experience for drivers, pedestrians, runners, and cyclists. Furthermore, removing debris, we help prevent harmful materials from entering storm sewers and polluting our rivers, streams, and creeks.

With a cleaner city, we also improve the curb appeal of our neighbourhoods and business areas, making Niagara Falls an even more inviting place to live and visit.

When to Expect Street Sweepers

Street sweepers will operate on weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents can view the estimated sweeping schedule and specific areas by consulting the 2025 Street Sweeper Operation Map. Please note that schedules may vary based on weather conditions and operational needs.
