NIAGARA FALLS, ON— Spring has arrived, and the City of Niagara Falls is excited to announce the commencement of street sweeping in select areas starting today, March 20, 2025. This early start aims to efficiently clear the streets before the warmer temperatures and to take advantage of the shoulder seasons for necessary spring maintenance.
Initiating street sweeping early in the season allows us to tackle the buildup from winter operations, such as sand and salt, which can cause drainage issues if washed into catch basins.
While the early sweeping presents distinct challenges, particularly the potential for snow or prolonged sub-zero temperatures that could necessitate redoing certain areas, the efforts will significantly mitigate future maintenance problems.
The work will commence on the City's mainlines and progress into residential areas. Residents are encouraged to keep a safe distance from the sweeping vehicles during this operation. Additionally, clearing roadside items such as basketball and hockey nets will enhance the effectiveness of the cleaning process.
The Municipal Works Department appreciates the community's cooperation and understanding during this important spring maintenance activity. Together, we can ensure our streets remain clean and safe for everyone.
