JAMES OSWALD WAS A LOCAL BUSINESSMAN WHO OWNED A BREWERY WITH HIS BROTHER NEAR ST. DAVID'S, CO-FOUNDED THE 1854 SURVEY OF CLIFTON WITH SAMUEL ZIMMERMAN, AND WAS PROPRIETOR OF THE WHIRLPOOL INN (SEE DP.6). PART OF THE ORIGINAL 1978 DESIGNATION BYLAW WAS REPEALED IN 1993 TO ALLOW PARTIONING OF THE LOT (SEE BYLAW 93-121)
Architectural Notes
AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THE REGENCY STYLE, THIS HOUSE FEATURES LARGE, MULTIPANED GROUND FLOOR WINDOWS AND A BROAD VERANDAH WITH WOOD TRELLIS SUPPORTS ACROSS THE SOUTH AND WEST FACADES. THE DECORATIVE IRON FENCE, SET IN A STONE BASE ALONG THE SOUTH AND WEST BORDERS OF THE LOT, WAS IMPORTED FROM ENGLAND.
