Indoor and Outdoor Tracks

Walking is a fun and easy way to stay active. You can enjoy a walk indoors on our community tracks or head outside to use the track or scenic trails around Niagara Falls.


 

Indoor tracks

Enjoy two indoor tracks year-round at the MacBain Community Centre and the Gale Centre Arena.

MacBain Community Centre

Location: 7150 Montrose Road, on the upper level of the gym

  • 3-lane track for walking and jogging
  • 8 laps = 1 km, 13 laps = 1 mile

MacBain track hours

  • Monday to Friday: 7:00 am to 9:00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Note: The track may close for special events. Watch for posted signs.

Gale Centre arena

Location: 5152 Thorold Stone Road, on the second floor above Rink #1

  • Two-lane, 240-meter-long rubber track for walking and jogging
  • 4.2 times around = 1 kilometer
  • 6.7 times around = 1 mile

Gale track hours

  • 7 days a week from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm unless a paid event is scheduled in Rink #1
  • Most Thursday and Friday evenings are booked for paid Junior hockey games, and the track will be unavailable
  • Note: The track may close for special or ticketed events. Watch for posted signs.

Indoor track rules

To keep the walking tracks safe and enjoyable for everyone, please be respectful of others and follow these rules:

General rules

  • Shirts and clean, dry indoor shoes must be worn (rubber-tread walking shoes recommended)
  • Keep noise low and use headphones for music or audiobooks. No speaker use.
  • Walk/run in the posted direction
  • Choose the lane that matches your speed and allow others to pass safely. There should be no more than two people side by side.
  • Don’t stop or stretch on the track. Step off to rest.
  • Limit your time if the track is busy
  • Spectators must not block the lanes
  • No food on the track, only water in a closed, non-glass container
  • No pets (service animals are welcome)
  • No personal, group, and team training on the tracks

Children and strollers

  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by a caregiver who is at least 16 years old
  • Strollers: You can bring your stroller on the track only if the wheels are clean

Equipment and belongings

  • No exercise gear such as skipping ropes, mats, or medicine balls
  • No walking poles unless needed for stability (must have rubber tips)
  • Don’t place personal items on railings
  • A coat rack is available, but there are no lockers or secure storage
  • The City is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items

Outdoor track

Visit the Oakes Park outdoor track located at 5700 Morrison Street.

Oakes Park track hours

  • Open from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm (track lighting hours may vary according to the weather and season)
  • Closed to the public every Monday and Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm for a private track and field booking
  • If the track is busy: Check out the Fairview Cemetery across the street. It offers peaceful walking areas with beautiful trees and scenery.
  • To protect the track from damage, we don’t maintain it during the winter months. You can still stay active by enjoying our indoor tracks all winter long!

Oakes Park track rules

To keep the rubber track safe and protect others, the following are not allowed:

  • Cycling
  • Inline skating
  • Skateboarding
  • Roller skating
  • Motorized vehicles

Permitted group events (like track and field or special events) have priority over community use.
