Community Curbside Giveaway
Do you have items you don’t need anymore, but they’re still in good shape? Don’t throw them out—give them away! Someone else might love them. On Curbside Giveaway Days, you can place reusable items at the end of your driveway or beside the sidewalk for others to take, for free!

2026 dates:
- Saturday, April 18, 2026
- Saturday, October 10, 2026
Time: Place your items on the curb between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm
Give your stuff a second life!
It’s a fun and easy way to:
- Keep items out of the landfill
- Help others in your community
- Support a greener, more caring city
How it works
- Put your gently used items at the curb between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm
- Make sure to clearly label them as free. You can use our printable sign or make one yourself.
- Remove any unclaimed items after the event at 5:00 pm (Items left at the curb may result in a fine)

Please remember that this is a public event, so anything you post can be seen by others.
Curbside giveaway tips
- Clearly mark items with a “Free” sign
- Keep items you’re not giving away close to your house, or inside, to avoid confusion
- Only put items in good, reusable condition
- Keep sidewalks and fire hydrants clear
- Park safely and follow all traffic rules
What you can give away
Here are some ideas of what you can put at the curb:
- Appliances (please remove all doors from large appliances)
- Artwork
- Bicycles
- Books
- CDs/DVDs
- Clothes
- Computers and electronics
- Dishes and cutlery
- Furniture (without glass panels)
- Kitchen gadgets and utensils
- Musical instruments
- Plants and potted trees
- Pots and pans
- Sporting goods
- Tools
- Toys
- Usable paint and building materials
- Yard and garden tools and equipment
- Other durable goods
What not to give away
Visit the Consumer Product Safety Bureau to find out about items that aren’t safe to give away.
- Anything broken or unsafe
- Hazardous or illegal items
- Mattresses (schedule a large item pickup instead)
What to do with leftover items
Can’t give everything away? No problem! Here’s what you can do:
- Donate to local charities or use the Region’s Item Disposal search tool. Many items entered will show you places to donate them to
- Sell your items online
- Schedule a large item pickup if needed (for homes and apartment buildings with one to six units only)
- Bring items to the landfill (fees may apply)
- Buy extra garbage tags if you have more than your set-out limit
Remember: Remove all leftover items from the curb at 5:00 pm. The City does not collect giveaway items.
