Cemetery Services and Fees

We provide a range of burial and memorial services to help families honour their loved ones. Here you can find out about lot or niche ownership, service times and link to the current cemetery fees.

Services

Our team is here to help with:

  • Arranging burials (traditional, cremation, and green burials)
  • Purchasing interment rights (lots and niches)
  • Understanding the cemetery by-law and the Funeral, Burial, and Cremation Services Act (FBCSA)
  • Installing markers, foundations, and bronze wreaths for columbaria
  • Maintaining cemetery grounds, including lifting flat markers and removing overgrown shrubs
  • Providing historical and genealogical information, including walking tours
  • Sponsoring gardens, benches, and the Maple Grove Memorial Walkway
  • Exploring commemorative options, such as the Tree and Bench Program

Internment rights and lot sales

When purchasing a burial lot, plot, or niche, you receive interment rights rather than land ownership. As the Interment Rights Holder, you must follow the Cemetery By-law regarding the installation of monuments, memorials, and flowerbed maintenance.

Transfers and refunds

  • You may transfer, exchange, or sell back your unused interment rights at any time before a burial occurs
  • If you cancel in writing within 30 days of signing the contract, you are eligible for a full refund. After 30 days, a refund is available minus the care and maintenance fees.
  • The City of Niagara Falls has the first refusal right to repurchase unused lots, plots, or niches. An administration fee applies.
  • All documents about the original sale must be returned to the Cemetery office

Payment terms

Interment Rights (lot sales) must be paid in full before burial and/or memorialization. Payment for a burial service (casket, cremation, niche, scatter) is due no later than the day of the service.

We schedule interment services from

  • Monday to Saturday between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm (excluding statutory and city holidays)
  • Sunday and holiday interments may be arranged between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, with an additional surcharge

To ensure a smooth service, please note:

  • All committal service scheduling is subject to cemetery approval, considering location, weather, staff availability, and the number of services requested
  • Funeral late arrivals may result in additional charges, as listed in the fees section
  • Funeral Directors must inform families in advance of any potential late charges or surcharges

Disinterments take place only between May 1 and November 1 at the discretion of the Cemetery Manager. The Funeral Director is responsible for scheduling and covering all related costs, including casket/urn/vault removal, unsealing and resealing, and obtaining approval and attendance from the Niagara Regional Health Unit.

A one-time care and maintenance fee applies to interments in lots purchased before 1955.

The Bereavement Authority of Ontario provides a Consumer Information Guide: A Guide to Death Care in Ontario to help you understand your rights and responsibilities when planning a funeral, burial, or cremation.

This free guide provides important information to families and the public before signing contracts with organizations licensed under the Funeral, Burial, and Cremation Services Act, 2002.
