![Road Rehabilitation & Maintenance]()
NIAGARA FALLS, ON - The City of Niagara Falls is committed to enhancing its road infrastructure to accommodate population growth, improve traffic flow, and extend the life of our roadways. Each year, the City invests significantly in road repair, maintenance, and construction, ensuring a safe and reliable road network for residents.
City Council has approved $12,787,000 in the 2025 Capital Budget for road improvements. These capital investments will benefit 22.85 kilometres of roads, including road reconstruction, resurfacing, overlay, and restoration programs.
Key projects for 2025 include:
- Phases 2 and 3 of the Drummond, Portage, and Gallinger Road Reconstruction (5 Corners)
- Willoughby Drive Road Reconstruction – Phase 1, from 100 meters south of Weinbrenner Road to 100 meters south of Cattell Drive
- 3.5 km Road Rehabilitation and sidewalk replacement on Delta Drive, Charnwood Avenue, and Preakness Street
- 6.4 km of Urban Surface Treatment in the neighbourhood west of Stamford Collegiate, covering Leonard Avenue, Byng Avenue, Woodland Boulevard, Depew Avenue, Maitland Street, Division Street, High Street, Leeming Street, and Cook Street
The City of Niagara Falls manages one of the largest road networks in the Niagara Region, covering approximately 1230 lane-kilometres of paved surfaces. Replacing all roads would cost over $750 million, requiring an annual budget of $30 million if done every 25 years, leaving very little room in our $50 million annual capital budget to address other needs such as watermains, sewers, parks, facilities, fire stations and fleet vehicles. To ensure a safe and efficient road network, the City follows Provincial Regulation O. Reg 23,9, which prioritizes the maintenance of higher-volume and higher-speed roads. Regular pavement condition assessments, traffic volume monitoring, and timely maintenance efforts also contribute to developing a pavement management system that prioritizes road rehabilitation projects based on current needs.
