Election Employment

The City of Niagara Falls is accepting applications for election workers for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election.

Election workers play an important role in helping ensure a fair, accessible, and efficient voting process. A variety of paid positions are available, including Information Assistant (IA), Deputy Returning Officer (DRO), Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (TDRO), and Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (SDRO).

Applications are open July 20 to September 18, 2026, and must be completed in person at Niagara Falls City Hall during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm). Applicants should bring government-issued identification. Mandatory paid training will be provided for all successful applicants prior to Election Day.

Election worker eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must:

• Be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Be 18 years of age on or before voting day

You are not eligible to work the election if you are:

• a candidate or registered third party advertiser
• a family member of a candidate

Election position descriptions

Information Assistant (IA)

The first point of contact for voters. Greets voters at the entrance, directs them to the correct DRO table, and answers general questions.

Rate of pay: $275.00

Time commitment:

• Training: Approximately 1 hour in-person - various dates in September/October
• Election Day: October 26, 2026 from 8:30 am until approximately 9 pm

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

Manages voter check-in at their assigned table. Verifies identification, issues ballots, maintains the voters' list, and balances the ballot count at the end of the day.

Rate of pay: $350.00

Time commitment:

• Training: Approximately 2 hours in-person - various dates in September/October
• Election Day: October 26, 2026, from 8:30 am until approximately 9:00 pm

Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (TDRO)

Operates the vote tabulator. Receives completed ballots from voters, feeds them into the tabulator, and prints the results tape at the close of polls.

Rate of pay: $325.00

Time commitment:

• Training: Approximately 2 hours in-person - various dates in September/October
• Election Day: October 26, 2026, from 8:30 am until approximately 9 pm

Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (SDRO)

Oversees the entire voting location and all election staff. Manages setup and closing, troubleshoots issues, distributes supplies, and is the primary point of contact for questions throughout the day.

Rate of pay: $400.00 

Time commitment:

• Training: Approximately 3 hours in-person - various dates in September/October
• Election Day: October 26, 2026, from 8:30 am until approximately 9:00 pm
