Mayor's Accessibility Advisory Committee
We believe that an accessible community is a healthy one.
Mission
We value accessibility and look to provide accessible options with all city services. Our mission is to educate the public and increase barrier-free accessibility in our community to benefit residents and visitors.
About us
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), became law on June 13, 2005. This important legislation aims to make Ontario fully accessible by 2025 by setting and enforcing accessibility standards. The Ontario government, working closely with people with disabilities, develops standards that public and private sector organizations must follow.
The Mayor’s Accessibility Advisory Committee was formed in 1997 to address accessibility issues in the city. We are made up of 10 to 14 community members strongly interested in accessibility.
Our main goals are to educate the public and improve barrier-free access for residents and visitors.
We also help local businesses by offering information on accessibility consulting services, audits, and displays upon request.
