  • Niagara Parks, in partnership with the City of Niagara Falls will implement planned road closures along a section of Portage Road, beginning February 24
  • There will be no disruption to neighbouring businesses or Niagara Parks operations

Niagara Falls, ON — Beginning on February 24, 2026, a skilled team of arborists from the Niagara Parks Horticulture department will be working in conjunction with the City of Niagara Falls to maintain the steep moraine embankment area located along Portage Road beneath neighbouring hotel properties.

The goal of this coordinated effort is to maintain existing vegetation, while removing non-native species, as well as any trees located above the roadway that are identified as hazardous. Due to the challenging nature of the terrain, the project team will require the use of heavy equipment, such as cranes, bucket trucks and woodchippers to safely perform the work, which will require approximately one week to complete, weather permitting.

Traffic Closures

Full road closure of Portage Road, section from the top of the Falls Incline Railway to Marineland Parkway (daily, weather permitting):

February 24 – March 6, 2026
6:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Detours will be directed via Stanley Avenue. There will be no disruption to surrounding businesses. All Niagara Parks operations, including parking lots, the Falls Incline Railway and WEGO bus service, will remain open as usual throughout the work period.

All Public Notices, along with information about ongoing construction projects, are available on Niagara Parks’ Repairs and Maintenance webpage
