Niagara Falls Council Approves Chippawa Willoughby Community Centre Project

NIAGARA FALLS, ON- Niagara Falls City Council has approved the Chippawa Willoughby Community Centre project, marking a major milestone toward a new multi-use recreation facility that will serve residents for generations while preserving an important community landmark.
The project is the result of more than two years of planning, technical analysis, and community engagement with residents, user groups, and stakeholders. The approved design reflects community feedback by expanding recreation opportunities while preserving the existing arena through adaptive reuse.
"This project is an investment in the future of Niagara Falls," said Mayor Jim Diodati. "We already know this will become the place to be! It will be an exciting hub for ice-skating and hockey, host to a library and all things community. We can't wait to see it take shape and welcome everyone there!"
The $59 million project will be funded through a combination of a $10 million provincial grant, City reserves, proceeds from the sale of surplus municipal lands, and long-term financing. Together, these funding sources reduce the City's borrowing requirements and help minimize the impact on local taxpayers.
With Council approval now secured, the project team will continue detailed design and pre-construction activities through the Progressive Design-Build process. Construction updates and key milestones will be shared with the community as the project advances.
A project funding summary and estimated taxpayer impact are available in the Chippawa Willoughby Community Centre Council report. Additional project information, including background and engagement materials, is available on the Let's Talk project page.
