Most MacBain Community Centre Programming Cancelled Through August 9 to Support Emergency Response

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - To support the ongoing emergency response following Sunday's significant rainfall and flooding across the Niagara Region, most programming at the MacBain Community Centre will remain cancelled from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9.

Nearly 100 St. Catharines residents remain displaced from their homes and continue to be accommodated at the MacBain Community Centre. Regular facility operations and programming are expected to resume on Monday, August 10, with some temporary service adjustments until 1:00 p.m.

Service Impacts: What Residents Need to Know

The MacBain Community Centre remains open; however, several services and programs are temporarily affected.

Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9

The following operational changes will be in effect from August 7 to 9:

  • Most registered and drop-in recreation programs are cancelled.
  • Summer camp programming will continue on a modified schedule.
  • All Older Adult programs, including the Older Adult Aqua Cycle class on Friday, August 7 at 12:00 p.m. are cancelled.
  • Aquatics programming, including Aquafit classes and swim lessons, will continue as scheduled beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day.
    • There will be no public access to the pool before 9:00 a.m.
  • At Your Service Niagara Falls counter service will be available daily beginning at 9:00 a.m.
  • The indoor walking track will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Participants in cancelled paid programs will automatically receive a refund. No action is required.

Monday, August 10

  • The facility will open at its regular time of 7:00 a.m.
  • All regular registered, drop-in and Older Adult programming will resume as scheduled.
  • Summer camp programming will continue on a modified morning schedule.
  • The indoor walking track will open at 9:00 a.m.
  • Morning recreation programming in the gymnasium are cancelled until 1:00 p.m., this includes:
    • 7:15 a.m. Cardio HITT in Gym B/C
    • 9:00 a.m. Get Fit in Gym B/C
    • 10:15 a.m. Sculpt & Tone in Gym B/C
    • 10:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Pickleball

MacBain Community Centre
Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Please note that At Your Service Niagara Falls at the MacBain Community Centre remains open to support residents; however, in-person counter service begins daily at 9:00 a.m. on August 7, 8, and 9th, with the regular 7:00 a.m. opening resuming on Monday, August 10th.

We anticipate higher-than-normal call volumes and appreciate the public's patience and understanding as we continue to support this evolving emergency response.
