City Prepares for Significant Snowfall Beginning Sunday, January 25

Niagara Falls, ON — The City of Niagara Falls is preparing for a major winter storm expected to begin Sunday around noon and continue through Monday afternoon. Forecasts are calling for 20 to 25 centimetres of snowfall over this period.
City crews are ready to respond, and a Significant Weather Event may be declared on Sunday under Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards. When declared, regular winter maintenance timelines are temporarily paused due to the severity of conditions. Once the event has ended, the City resumes its usual service timelines.
Significant weather events can impact both road and sidewalk conditions, and residents are urged to use extra caution when travelling, as it may take longer to restore streets and sidewalks to normal conditions.
Residents are reminded that parking is not permitted on city streets during snowstorms and while snow-clearing operations are underway. Parked vehicles make it difficult, and in some cases impossible, for plows to clear roads safely and efficiently. Following parking restrictions helps crews clear streets faster, keeps roads safer for everyone, and reduces the risk of tickets or towing.
