Sidewalks and curbs

Learn how the City takes care of sidewalks and curbs, how to report issues like cracks or damage, and what to know about driveways, curb cuts, and snow clearing.

How we respond to sidewalk concerns

City sidewalks are inspected annually in the spring. We track all of the deficiencies we find and the concerns reported to us in a database. We use this database to plan and repair the sidewalks that need the most attention.

Report a sidewalk concern

Sidewalks are inspected regularly, but you can help keep them safe by reporting issues like cracks, uneven surfaces, or damage caused by weather or tree roots.

You can report a sidewalk concern in a few easy ways:

  1. Complete the online reporting form
  2. Phone 905-356-7521
  3. Email service@niagarafalls.ca

Note: Include the location of the sidewalk (street name and nearest address or intersection). A photo is optional, but it can help staff assess and resolve the issue more quickly.

Curb cuts, driveway widths, and parking areas

The zoning by-law has rules about how wide your driveway can be and how much space it can take up in your total yard area. Check with us before you widen your driveway.

A curb cut (also known as a curb depression or driveway ramp) allows for vehicle access between the roadway and private property. Property owners must request approval before any modifications are made to the curb.

Learn more about driveway widths, how to request a curb cut, and how much parking space you are allowed on our Driveway Widths and Parking Areas page.

Sidewalk snow clearing
