Winter Parking
Parking is not allowed on the street during snowstorms and while snow-clearing crews are working. Parked cars make it harder, and sometimes impossible, for plows to clear the roads. Following these rules helps snowplows clear roads faster, keeps streets safe, and prevents tickets or towing.
Winter parking rules
Keep streets clear during winter to help with snow removal.Do not park on the street when it snows
- Let plows work: When streets are free of cars, snowplows can work quickly and safely to clear the snow
- Avoid towing: If you leave your car on the street during a snow event, it may be ticketed and towed
- Avoid getting blocked in: Don’t risk having to dig your car out of a snow drift
Winter parking tips
- Use your driveway: Always park fully in your driveway. Make sure your car doesn’t stick out onto the street or sidewalk.
- Move before the snow: If snow is forecasted, move your car off the street in advance. Plan to park off the street for 72 hours unless snowplow operations continue beyond that.
- Follow parking bans: During snowplow operations, temporary parking restrictions will apply. Check for local updates.
- Parking when it is not snowing: Avoid parking directly across from another car on the street. This can make the road too narrow, block traffic, and make it hard for emergency vehicles to pass.
No overnight parking
The Parking and Traffic By-law bans parking on City and Regional Roads from 2:00 am to 6:00 am. This rule is enforced year-round, with stricter enforcement during the winter. Violations of this by-law will result in a fine.
No exceptions during snowstorms: Overnight parking permits and special allowances don’t apply during snow events.
To report overnight parking violations:
- From 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, call 905-356-7521 ext. 4700
- After hours from 4:30 pm to 7:30 am, call 905-356-1355
- Parking control officers will respond to complaints and enforce the rules for all vehicles, not just specific ones
