1. Purpose

1.1    The City of Niagara Falls Civic Recognition Program aims to honor individuals, teams, and groups who have brought pride to the community through their achievements. The program presents awards for accomplishments in various fields, including education, arts, culture, sports, recreational activities, and other notable achievements.

2. Application/Scope

2.1    General Criteria for all Nominations:
2.1.1.    Nominees must reside in the City of Niagara Falls at the time of their achievement.
2.1.2.    Nominees must have been educated or trained with an organization or team based in the City of Niagara Falls.
2.1.3.    Recognition is given to individuals or groups who achieve the highest level of Provincial and National competition or award.
2.1.4.    Competitions must be recognized by the sport's governing body; tournaments do not qualify.
2.1.5.    Special recognition may be given to individuals or teams achieving accomplishments at an international level.

3. Definitions

3.1    Achievement: A notable accomplishment in any field recognized by the Civic Recognition Program.
3.2    Nominee: An individual, team, or group proposed for recognition under the Civic Recognition Program.
3.3    Provincial and National Competition: Officially recognized contests or events at the provincial or national level.
3.4    Special Recognition: Additional acknowledgment given for unique or international achievements.

4. Policy

4.1    To be considered for a Civic Recognition Award, a nomination form must be completed and submitted to the City of Niagara Falls. Once approved, the recipient(s) will be invited to an Awards presentation at a designated City Council meeting. These presentations will be scheduled throughout the year.
4.2    Ontario Scholars, including students who graduate from technical and business programs, will receive a self-standing plaque with the official City Crest, engraved with the recipient’s name and achievement. The Mayor or their representative will present these awards at the respective graduation ceremonies.

5. Review

5.1    The next review dated is scheduled for September 19, 2030
