1. Purpose

1.1    The Recreation Committee raises funds to provide financial help to individuals who need assistance to participate in community recreation and culture activities.

2. Application/Scope

2.1    Funding is available for various recreation and culture activities, such as soccer, baseball, music, dance, and skating. However, school sports and gym memberships are not eligible for funding.

3. Definitions

3.1    None

4. Policy

4.1    You may receive financial assistance if your application meets these conditions:
4.1.1.    Application Submission: Submit a completed Activity Subsidy Fund application form to the Recreation & Culture Office, including all required supporting documentation.
4.1.2.    Eligibility Verification: The application must include one (1) completed Confirmation of Financial Needs Form verifying your financial need. This form can be completed by:
i.    A representative of a social service agency (e.g., FACS, Community Living, Project SHARE, ODSP, etc.), or
ii.    An official or individual personally aware of your financial situation (e.g., Faith Leader, Social Worker, Teacher, School Principal, etc.).
Please note: If option ii. is selected a brief interview with Recreation & Culture Staff may be required.
4.1.3.    Residency Requirement: You must be a resident of Niagara Falls. Proof of residence may be required.
4.1.4.    Funding Limits: Subsidies are available to assist with registration and basic equipment costs for recreation and culture activities. Funding is not guaranteed and will be considered up to a maximum of $500 per person per year.
4.1.5.    Eligible Activities: Subsidies are available for recreation and culture activities in both the non-profit and private sectors.
4.1.6.    Confidential Review: Applications will be reviewed in confidence by the Recreation Committee or appropriate designates.
4.1.7.    Payment Process: Upon approval, whenever possible, the cheque will be made payable and forwarded directly to the organization offering the activity. If the registration deadline has passed, you may be reimbursed directly.
4.1.8.    Non-Attendance: If you do not attend the activity, the funding will be returned to the City, minus any required administration fee by the host of the activity.
4.2    Additional Conditions: Approval of the request may be subject to any further conditions that the Recreation Committee may establish.
4.3    Fund Utilization: A maximum of 50% of the funds within the Recreation Committee's Activity Subsidy Fund will be utilized in one year.
